The Palmyra volleyball team recorded posted records of 16-3 in 1950-51, 21-2 in 1951-52, and 21-1 in 1952-53. Players on the 1951-52 team included Mildred Hartman, Francie Stilwell, Marguerite Guy, Donna Smith, Marie Weatherhogg, Gera Powers, Elberta Rhoten, Marie Cooper, Wilma Dowding, Vera Thomson, Marilyn Kelly and Betty Cooper. The team was led by Coach Davis.
Just a couple of school years back, Nebraska City High School moved its athletics and activities from the Eastern Midlands Conference to the Trailblazer Conference. Other teams in the Trailblazer are Platteview, Plattsmouth, Beatrice, Ralston and Wahoo. That’s a total of six teams.
The classy Dunbar quintet posted its 17th victory of the season and second tournament win Friday night in speeding past Palmyra 49-24 to cop the Otoe County Basketball Tournament Crown before a jammed hall at the Syracuse High School. Bremer had 21 to lead Dunbar while Klaasmeyer had 11.
