Vasser’s bridge becomes viral-video sensation

With each wrestling tournament and with each match, the legend of Makayla Vasser grows. Nebraska City’s seventh grade wrestler is being noticed for her accomplishments at the local level as a member of the Pioneers’ middle school team, at the state level in Nebraska for her championship-winning ways, and throughout many other states where she has competed and gotten recognition for excellence. She’s now a viral-video sensation.

Pioneers grab relay, shot put golds at A-G meet

Nebraska City’s track and field teams competed at the Ashland-Greenwood Invite on Friday, March 25, with the boys’ team picking up a fourth-place finish and the girls’ team taking sixth place. Gold medal winners for the Pioneer boys’ team included the 4x800 relay of Daniel Adanza, Mason Houghton, Alex Rico and Kalan Fritch with a mark of 9:29.03, and Zach Ottemann, who threw first place in the shot put with a mark of 46’6”.

Pioneers blank Elkhorn, look for more offense

Nebraska City picked up another shut-out win on the pitch on Thursday, March 24, as the Pioneer boys’ soccer squad blanked Elkhorn, 2-0. Vance Weninger scored the first goal halfway through the first half and Octavio Lopez scored late in the second half on what Nebraska CIty Coach Jessica Rice described as a “beautiful shot from 25 yards out.” Mikah Ruiz picked up four saves in goal for the Pioneers.
