On Tuesday, May 10, the Peru State football team announced the hiring of H.T. Kinney to be its new offensive coordinator. Kinney was most recently an offensive analyst for FCS program Nicholls State during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
Peru State men’s basketball head coach Bob Ludwig recently announced that the men’s basketball program will be hosting an Offensive Skills Camp Monday, August 1, through Wednesday, August 3. The camp will be for boys in the third grade through high school seniors. The camp will be from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., each day and walk in registration will be that Monday at 8:30 a.m.
Peru State head volleyball coach Madison Kindle recently announced the volleyball program will be hosting a skills camp on Wednesday, July 20. The camp will be for high school players looking to continue their careers at the collegiate level. The camp runs from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and lunch will be provided.
Members of the Nebraska City boys’ track team competed at the state meet at Omaha Burke Stadium on Wednesday, May 18. MJ Nelson ran in the preliminary rounds of the 100 and 400 meter dash. Mason Houghton, Alex Rico, Kalan Fritch and Daniel Adanza ran in the 3200 meter relay.
Members of the Nebraska City middle school track team competed at the recent middle school state tournament at Gothenburg. Rico broke school record in 1600 meter run at the meet. The new record time was 4:55.81. The previous record was 5:03.07. Rico’s time placed him sixth. He also ran to a 15th place finish in the 800. Marth placed 11th in the discus and 12th in the shot. Vasser placed 15th in the shot.
Nebraska City High School athletes, coaches and fans recently marked the end of the 2021-22 athletic seasons by honoring the top performers of the year at the annual awards banquet. .
Shooting for Nebraska City at the Class B1 district golf tournament at Table Creek on Monday, May 16, were Landon Clark, 100 for 41st; Jayden Borns, 111; Drew Weddle, 115; and Carter Maybee, 118. The individual champion was William Mulin of Omaha Skutt with a 73. He beat Jackson Lapour, also of Omaha Skutt in a playoff. The top team was Omaha Skutt with a 312. Also qualifying for state as a team were Elkhorn North and Omaha Concrodia. Both shot 320.
The Lourdes girls’ and boys’ track and field teams competed at the district meet on Thursday, May 11, at Malcolm High School. Beau Lee earned first place and state qualifying status for both the long jump, 22’5.25”, and the triple jump, 43’4.5” to lead the Knight boys’ team.
