A fantastic run through the Class B1 Area Tournament at Auburn ended one game short of the state tournament for the Nebraska City Modern Real Estate Post 8 Juniors on Tuesday, July 12. The team opened play on Friday, July 8, by taking down Hickman and then backed that win up with victories over Beatrice and Auburn to reach the tournament finals.
Earlier this summer Peru State volleyball head coach Madison Kindle signed Olivia Gordon for the upcoming 2022 season. She is from Oskaloosa, Iowa and went to Oskaloosa High School. Gordon will also be a member of the Bobcat softball team.
The Nebraska City Jaycees recently held their annual Summer Ball Awards at Steinhart Park. Participants in the tee ball league received pizza coupons and medals. Coach pitch participants received medals and coupons. The Coach Pitch top three teams of the season were First Place Tree Worx coached by Andy and Jessica Moyer and Logan Crunk, Second Place was Ambassador Health coached by Brett Schnitzer, Tyler and Kelly Julifs, and Third Place was Paper Tiger Shredding coached by Brent Travis. The Coach Pitch Tournament top three teams were Commercial State Bank coached by Tyler Avery in third place, Ambassador Health was second place, and Tree Worx placed first.
Peru State athletic director Wayne Albury recently announced that Taylor Finke (Battle Creek) of the women’s golf team and Creyton Nisly (Hutchison, Kansas) of the men’s bowling team earned June Bobcat Athletes of the Month honors.
Earlier this spring Peru State head volleyball coach Madison Kindle signed Tanayah Gray for the upcoming 2022 season. Gray is from Hemet, California and attended San Jacinto High School.
Earlier this spring Peru State women’s basketball coach Ian Holleran signed Calista Perkins for the upcoming 2022-23 season. Perkins is from Omaha, Nebraska and attended Omaha Central High School.
Noah Russell, a Manufacturing Engineering Technology student at Southeast Community College, won the bronze medal in the Technical Drafting category at the National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, June 23.
The Big Ten Conference Council of Presidents and Chancellors voted unanimously on Thursday, June 30 to admit the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the University of Southern California (USC) to the Big Ten Conference effective August 2, 2024. Competition will begin for all conference sports in the 2024-25 academic year.
The Nebraska City Modern Real Estate Seniors swept through the Fourth of July holiday weekend with three straight wins, including two against rival teams. A 17-hit offensive resulted in 15 runs and a 15-11 win over Platteview on Thursday, June 30.
