Growing Nebraska through international trade
Don’t let Nebraska’s location in the middle of America fool you. Our state touches every corner of the globe with the crops we grow, livestock we raise, and products we manufacture.

Though all vegetables contain vitamins, minerals and fiber that can serve as the foundations of a healthy diet, perhaps no veggie packs as nutritious a punch as spinach. Spinach is an excellent source of calcium and iron and is also loaded with antioxidants, which are substances that can prevent or slow down cell damage. According to Medical News Today, a single cup of raw spinach can provide adults with their full daily requirement for vitamin K, which plays a major role in blood clotting and can be used to prevent and treat weak bones. That same cup of spinach also contains high amounts of vitamin A, a powerful antioxidant that can positively affect brain function and various organs, including the skin, heart, kidneys, and lungs. And that same cup doesn't stop there, as it also provides significant amounts of vitamin C, magnesium and folate. A 2015 study from researchers in Canada found that spinach also may help to lower blood pressure and promote heart health.
South Dakota offers some of the best ATV and UTV tourism in the United States, thanks in part to their legal framework to balance safety and freedom of use. Nebraska could soon follow suit if my bill, LB 1110, passes. On February 14th at 1:30 p.m., LB 1110 will have its public hearing in front of the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee. This bill would clarify our laws on ATVs and UTVs with a regulatory framework like South Dakota’s.
The 2022 Winter Olympics are finally underway. Each of the American athletes competing this year is the best in their event. Many have dedicated their entire lives to their sports, hoping to one day have this chance to represent the United States in the Olympic Games.
Last week, I participated in a House Ways and Means Committee hearing on the mental health crisis in the United States. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly one in five American adults live with some form of mental illness.
It’s Super Bowl week. And with that, another season of football is almost completed.
They might not garner as much attention as apples, oranges or bananas, but pears pack a nutritional punch that puts them on par with other popular fruits. A mediumsized pear provides roughly 21 percent of the daily recommended value of fiber, an essential component of a healthy diet that helps keep hunger and blood sugar levels in check. According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, pears are loaded with antioxidants that can help people reduce their risk for cardiovascular disease and cancer. In addition, one study from researchers at Harvard University found that individuals who consume fruits like pears that are rich anthocyanin, which is a flavonoid with antioxidant-like effects, have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Here in the Good Life, we must not take our public safety for granted. We’ve seen other states fail to support law enforcement and underinvest in their corrections.
As we settle in to Month 4 with CherryRoad Media, we received our new company laptop computers and have begun to be trained on them. After spending quite a lot of my in-office career with the Apple family of products and my freelance life divided between macs and PCs, I find myself in a bit of a learning curve at the moment (Which machine am I on? What did I want to do next? How do I do it on this particular machine? and so on).
As your U.S. senator, my job is to represent your interests in Washington.
