My Bill to Protect Rural Nursing Homes

Across America, 1.3 million people live in nursing homes—including almost 10,000 of our fellow Nebraskans. Many of us have parents, grandparents, or other loved ones who rely on these homes for care and community in their golden years. We understand just how vital nursing homes are, in urban, suburban, and rural areas alike, to help seniors around our country thrive.

Committee and Floor Action

Having completed over 25% of the 2025 Legislative Session, the Legislature continues to methodically process bills advancing from Committee. Thus far, 52 bills have advanced from the first round of debate (General File), with another 36 bills awaiting initial consideration. Of the ten bills that I introduced which have received public hearings, six of them have advanced from Committee for consideration by the full Legislature.

Reasons to be concerned about your vision

Recently, I had a gentleman come for an annual wellness visit. He hadn’t had one for quite some time, and I could tell he was a little uncertain about what to expect. He was patient while we reviewed his family history, and tolerant while we talked about diet and exercise, but he’d had enough when I asked about the last time he’d been to the dentist and the eye doctor. “What is this about?” he asked me, somewhat exasperated. I suppose people don’t usually expect to go to their primary care doctor and have her nag them about their teeth or their eyes!

Protecting Our Sovereignty, Our Servicemembers, and Our Allies

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is a lawless, politicized body. It threatens our sovereignty, our servicemembers, and our allies. It has investigated American troops. It’s taken illegitimate action against Israel. The Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act would sanction ICC officials for overstepping their authority. Recently, a majority of my colleagues joined me in supporting it. Despite strong bipartisan support in the House, Senate Democrats blocked it. They chose political games over supporting the women and men who defend our country.

I don’t know about you – but I haven’t had much luck taking anything “back” to a store in my lifetime. Of course, the clerk had valid reasons – most of the time.
