Una puertorriqueña en Nebraska

“Para la Comunidad” (For the Community) is a space to speak with the Hispanic community in Nebraska City and to incorporate them into the weekly news in town. As a born and raised Puerto Rican, my first language is Spanish. I have decided to bring this space to break down language barriers and bring the community together.

So it begins . . .

Do you feel it? I do! After all of these years, I still feel a wonderful sense of excitement and hope when this time of the year arrives! It is in the air, all around us. No, not the hustle bustle in the big box stores.

Nebraska was the first state in the nation to pass a bill of this kind. And we passed it 44 votes to 5, with senators from all over the political spectrum – Democrat, Republican, pro-choice, and pro-life – coming together to protect our unborn children.

Giving thanks and giving back with Gov. Pete Ricketts

As we enter a season of giving, it’s an opportunity for each of us to reflect on the blessings we’ve received over the last year. When the Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving in 1621, they gave thanks to God for their safe passage to America and the bountiful harvest they had been given. Over 200 years later, President Abraham Lincoln made this celebration a national holiday. Americans from all walks of life celebrate Thanksgiving each November. It’s a time for family and friends to come together, to share a meal, and to give thanks.
