Leonard D. Bassinger

NEBRASKA CITY - Leonard D. Bassinger, age 94 of Nebr. City passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk, NE. Leonard was born on June 25, 1927 southeast of Nebraska City; near the former town of Minersville; the son of Dwight and Julia Marie (Kleineweber) Bassinger. He entered the United States Army on January 19, 1951. He proudly served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on October 18, 1952 receiving the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal and the Army Occupation Medal.

Gerard H. Timothy

Gerard H. Timothy, age 95 of Nebr. City passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021. On September 23, 1926, Cosmas and Kathleen Timothy welcomed their ninth child in Falls City, NE. They named him Gerard Henry Timothy. He grew up and attended school in Falls City, graduating with the Class of 1944.

Andrew Dean Grotheer

NEBRASKA CITY - Andrew Dean Grotheer, age 53 of Nebraska City died November 26, 2021 at Bryan LGH East Medical Center in Lincoln. Andrew was born April 28, 1968 in Omaha, the son of Philip K. and Elsie Marie (Garman) Grotheer. Andrew grew up in Omaha and moved to Nebraska City in 1981 and he graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1986. He worked at Wordsmith Book Store for six years and worked at the Pendleton Outlet in Nebraska City for 26 years. Andrew was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with family and getting together with friends for role playing games. Survivors include his father, Kurt Grotheer of Nebraska City; brother Tim (Kim) Grotheer of Omaha; sister, Beth Williamson and aunt, Ruth Huston, both of Nebraska City; brother in spirit, James Zank; nieces, Dianne Heiman, Danielle (Taylor) Hoskinson; great nieces, Olivia Grandizio and Riley Hoskinson; great nephew, Rawlings Hoskinson; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie and brother, Richard. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday,

Hunter James Baker

Hunter James Baker was born in Nebraska City to Randi Baker on December 26, 2002. Hunter was Randi’s first-born child, a first grandchild, a first great-grandchild, and a first nephew, he has always been something special. Hunter graduated from Nebraska City High School in May, 2021 and had plans to marry his girlfriend, Payton, this summer and attend Missouri Welding Institute this fall.

Dale William Wurtele

NEBRASKA CITY - Dale William Wurtele, age 84 of Nebraska City died November 23, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. Dale was born September 22, 1937 in Nebraska City, the son of Alton William and Ruth Anna Emilie (Beccard) Wurtele. Dale graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1955. He married Bonnie Jones September 18, 1960 in Julian. Dale was a farmer and formerly served in the Nebraska National Guard. He had driven trucks for WH Manufacturing, Crownline Plastics, Falstaff, Budweiser, Farmer’s Coop and City Wholesale Meats. Dale moved to Nebraska City from the farm in 2004 and was a member of Bethel Church, Nebraska City Elks Lodge No. 1049 and was a 50+ member of Eagles Aerie No. 968.
