Nebraska City Creative District hosts successful first weekend event

The official kickoff to the new Nebraska City Creative District was a success, according to event organizers.“Nebraska City Creative District’s Artist Walk was a fabulous day for artists, art lovers, tourists, community members, and business owners!” said Kelly Bequette, owner of The Keeping Room and one of the members of the committee that earned the official Creative District designation for Nebraska City from the Nebraska Arts Council.“The local talent was diverse, engaging, fun and inspiring and the town was blessed to have so many show support for the event, the artists, the newly certified Creative District, and our fabulous hometown, Nebraska City,” she said.Bequette credited the weekend weather as part of the event’s success and said the Nebraska City Creative District looks forward to growing the event for next years. She expressed thanks specifically to Hannah Demma, executive director of the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, who helped organize the Artist Walk, Tammy Partsch for her marketing efforts, and the Nebraska City businesses who hosted and supported the artists.Donna Kruse, library director of the Morton-James Public Library and member of the Nebraska City Veterans Memorial Building board of directors, also gave credit to Demma’s leadership and coordination efforts for the downtown Artist Walk, as well as Carol Hammond, who specifically helped coordinate the 16 artist vendors at the Memorial Building.
