NC Council approves Creative District banners, events

A bluegrass festival, a cabaret and jazz night, and adult pumpkin carving are among the upcoming Nebraska City Creative District events in downtown Nebraska City.The Nebraska City City Council approved a request for a temporary closure of 8th Street from Central Avenue to 1st Corso on Saturday, June 22, to accommodate the Bluegrass Festival, which will take place at the Nebraska City Veterans Memorial Building from 3 to 10 p.m.Council members also approved a special designated license for The Keeping Room and Gathering Place on Saturday, Aug.

NC Rotary Club learns about SENDD programs

The Southeast Nebraska Development District (SENDD) serves 16 counties and 164 communities in southeast Nebraska.Tom Bliss, SENDD executive director, spoke to the Nebraska City Rotary Club March 27 about the organization and the services SENDD provides.Bliss said he sees himself and his 11-person staff as “problem solvers and connectors” as they work to improve the state’s economy at the community level.Since 2017, Bliss said SENDD has brought about $120 million in grant funds to southeast Nebraska.

Natural Gas Utility Workers Day observed

During the March 18 Nebraska City City Council meeting, Mayor Bryan Bequette proclaimed the day as Natural Gas Utility Workers Day in the city.His proclamation noted that natural gas is a vital commodity for powering the nation and providing economical fuel for homes and businesses.The proclamation also served as a reminder that the Nebraska City Utilities natural gas utility workers serve the people of Dunbar, Syracuse, and Unadilla, in addition to the residents of Nebraska City.Natural Gas Utility Workers Day is observed on March 18 each year.

National Library Week proclaimed in NC

April 7 to 13 has been proclaimed National Library Week in Nebraska City by Mayor Bryan Bequette.In his proclamation, Bequette encouraged all Nebraska City residents to visit the Morton-James Public Library, “a place where we can all belong and discover who we are.”April Library events include Card Club on Thursday, April 11, from 1 to 3 p.m.; Young Adult Trivia Night (for those 16 to 19) on Friday, April 12, from 5 to 7 p.m.; and Tween Trivia Night (for those 11 to 15) on Friday, April 19, from 5 to 7 p.m.
