Need for agricultural and food scientist is growing

Projections from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate the need for agricultural and food scientists will grow by 9 percent between 2020 and 2030. Agricultural and food scientists can work in laboratories, offices and even in the field as they research ways to improve the efficiency and safety of agricultural establishments and products. Projected job openings in the field could be as high as 4,400 opportunities per year, making a career as an agricultural and food scientist one of the more enticing professions in the agriculture industry.

Tax season provides opportunity to support Nebraska wildlife conservation

Nebraskans receiving an income tax refund this year have an opportunity to support wildlife and habitat conservation. On Line 46 of the Nebraska state income tax form, 1040N, individuals may donate $1 or more of their tax refund to the Nebraska Wildlife Conservation Fund, which is used to help several hundred species in Nebraska that are rare, endangered or threatened.

For many working Americans, April 15 is synonymous with taxes. But taxpayers may be happy to learn that they have two extra days to file their returns in 2018. That’s because this year April 15 falls on a Sunday, and April 16 is Emancipation Day, when the District of Columbia celebrates Abraham Lincoln’s signing of the District of Columbia Compensated Emancipation Act, which freed more than 3,000 slaves in D.C.

Northeast CC academic honors

Abbigail Balfour of Nebraska City has been named to the president's list at Northeast Community College in Norfolk. To be named to the president’s honor list, students must earn a grade point average of 4.0 and be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours.
