The next phase of the Tree City Trails project, which will connect the Nebraska City Softball Complex with North 11th Street, received a grant award of $250,000 late last month. The Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant will be used to build a 4,400-foot-long concrete hike/bike trail connecting existing sidewalks to downtown and neighborhoods with the softball complex.

One person involved in a crash that occurred Sunday morning in Hamilton County has died. The crash remains under investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol. Preliminary investigation shows that at approximately 6:00 a.m. Sunday, an Aurora Police Officer was traveling eastbound on I-80 near mile marker 318. The officer observed a Toyota Corolla driving recklessly and unable to maintain its lane.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service is continuing an effort to enhance the adoption of soil health practices through the establishment of Soil Health Management Demonstration Projects. Landowners interested in applying for funding to establish a soil health demonstration project should submit their application to NRCS by Friday, Feb. 18.
