Otoe County Sheriff ’s deputies responded to a business north of Nebraska City on Thursday, March 10, for a report of a 60-year-old Iowa man in a mental health crisis. When deputies arrived, they made contact with the man, who was sitting in his vehicle.

As social distancing guidelines issued in response to the COVID-19 pandemic encouraged people to stay home as much as possible, a desire for accessible, enjoyable outdoor spaces grew. A 2020 study of Google trends data from the home decor retailer Living Spaces found that searches for items such as patio daybeds and small-space outdoor furniture grew by more than 200 percent between the early part of 2020 and the middle of the year.
Plans are already underway for the 70th reunion of the Nebraska City High School Class of 1952, which will take place Memorial Day Weekend. Organizers have contacted the 19 surviving members of the 64-student class, which was the smallest class in NCHS history.
