Investigators with the Nebraska State Patrol have arrested a Gering man following an investigation into firearms stolen from the Minatare Police Department. On Tuesday, March 22, investigators arrested Bryan Martinez, 32, at his residence in Gering.

Nebraska City Community Foundation Fund helps restart D.A.R.E. program at NCPS, Lourdes

After a hiatus of two years, the Nebraska City Police Department is pleased to be back in the classrooms working with students through the nationally accredited D.A.R.E. Program. The Nebraska City Community Foundation Fund (NCCFF) is excited to again help fund this worthwhile youth program with a $1,500 grant.

Mr. Smith comes to Nebraska City

Congressman Adrian Smith made his first visit to Nebraska City on Monday, March 21, since Otoe County became part of the Third Congressional District earlier this year. Smith was in town for a meet and greet event at the Lied Lodge and Conference Center hosted by the Nebraska City Rotary Club, followed by a tour of Arbor Day Farm. Smith's district increased by five counties, from 75 to 80, with the redistricting brought about by the results of the 2020 Census. He spoke to the audience about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Medicare, agriculture, trade, and Smith's work on the Ways and Means Committee, which oversees a number of programs, including Social Security, unemployment insurance, taxes, tariffs, and child support.

County commissioners approve road plans

During the March 15 meeting of the Otoe County Board of Commissioners, board members took the following actions: Approved Otoe County's 1- and 6-year road plan; Approved an interlocal agreement with the University of Nebraska Board of Regents for Cooperative Extension services; Heard a presentation on health and supplemental life insurance from Nebraska Association of County Officials representatives Judd Allen and Mike Boden; Authorized the seeking of bids for a skid loader and attachments for the Syracuse Roads Shop; and Approved hiring Mainelli Wagner and Associates to perform routine bridge inspections. The next regularly scheduled Otoe County Board of Commissioners meeting is set for 8:30 a.m.

Council approves grant application for Steinhart Park pickleball courts

Nebraska City residents and visitors may soon be able to play pickleball in Steinhart Park if a recently submitted grant to the Steinhart Foundation is awarded. The Nebraska City City Council approved a request by Nebraska City City Administrator Lou Leone, in partnership with Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce, to request a $55,560 grant from the foundation to construct two fenced pickleball courts on the Central Avenue side of the park.

February 2022 Nebraska City Rescue responded to 68 911 calls and performed 34 transfers.
