Lourdes Central Catholic is excited to announce that construction of a $1.9 million new onsite cafeteria space is underway at its main campus. The school officially marked the milestone with a groundbreaking event on Tuesday, April 12, organized by Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce.
Nebraska Extension and Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Public Health, have announced plans for the annual “tractor safety” training courses scheduled at 6 sites across Nebraska in late May and early June. Students will complete the first day of the course either by attending a hand-on event at one of two locations or online through the eXtension Foundation Campus website. The hands-on events will take place May 24 in North Platte, and May 26 in Grand Island. After successfully completing the hand-on event or the online course, and testing, the required driving test will be offered at six locations across Nebraska May 25 through June 10.
Many Nebraska soils have high clay and silt content making them prone to compaction. Foot traffic from both human and pets, equipment and vehicles are all common causes of soil compaction. Look for the following as signs of potential soil compaction in your landscape.
While the winter of 2021-2022 was very dry, we have received some rain and warmer temperatures, so weeds are beginning to grow. If fields weren’t sprayed last fall for control of winter annuals, these weeds are the first to begin growing. Keep an eye out for weeds beginning to grow in your crop fields.

May will be Community Action Month in Otoe County, after the Otoe County Board of Commissioners approved a proclamation to that fact during the board's April 12 meeting. Southeast Nebraska Community Action (SENCA) Development Director Susan Keholm requested the proclamation from the board as part of her annual report on SENCA activities in Otoe County and southeast Nebraska.
Seeing an opportunity to invest in the future of Nebraska City High School students, Nebraska City Community Foundation Fund (NCCFF) gave the school a $10,000 grant to assist funding its Jobs for America’s Graduates Nebraska (JAG) Program.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has set a record in offering more than 6,800 universitywide scholarships to the 2022 graduating class from Nebraska high schools and other first-year admits. Nearly two out of three first-year admitted resident students have been offered an academic scholarship for the upcoming school year.
