Stukenholtz earns State FFA Degree, Star Award, proficiency

Andrew Stukenholtz is living the FFA mission. The agricultural organization's mission is stated as follows: "FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education." In achieving his State FFA Degree, Stukenholtz has become a leader in the Nebraska City chapter (he is chapter president this year), has grown in agricultural experience, and has discovered his career path: diesel truck technology.

The Nebraska City News-Press would like to extend its gratitude to members of the Nebraska City High School football team, Head Coach Kaleb Walker and Pioneer assistant coaches for helping to dispose of trash and for bringing up 600 boxes of sensitive documents from the basement to be shredded, all during the span of under two hours on the morning of Saturday, April 23. The News-Press is making preparations to move from 823 Central Ave., to 901 S. 9th Street, current home of Sass and Frass. The labor of these young men will allow that move to take place. ‘Jack in the Blue Ridge Mountains’ in NC

The York College Traveling Children’s Theatre performed “Jack and the Blue Ridge Mountains” on Saturday, April 23, at Nebraska City Middle School. The humorous play, based on oral traditions of the Blue Ridge Mountains, takes audience members through four different stories all starring the main character Jack. This is the Traveling Children’s Theatre’s 25th year of sharing performances throughout Nebraska. Morton-James Public Library sponsored the afternoon performance. Courtesy Photo

Brownville Concert Series Presents: Jeff Harnar

The Brownville Concert Series is thrilled to bring back Brownville favorite JEFF HARNAR in his critically acclaimed show “BECAUSE OF YOU: Fifties Gold.” The show taps into his parents’ record collection, highlighting songs from the Tony Bennet, Johnny Mathis, Nat “King” Cole, Doris Day, and Johnnie Ray songbooks, among many others. He will have Alex Rybek on piano, Steve Doyle on Bass, and Dave Chael on Sax. The show will be in cabaret on Friday & Saturday, May 13th & 14th at 7:30pm, and Sunday, May 15th at 2:00pm. We give special thanks to Jan Chism Wright, Frontier Bank, and Brownville Fine Arts Association in memory of Carie Allen for helping to sponsor these shows.

El Portal Mexican Restaurant clarifies rumors, plans on hold for new location in Syracuse

After a local news outlet shared that a new Mexican restaurant designing plans were back on track for Syracuse, El Portal Mexican restaurant spokesman Tom Giffee provided clarifying remarks. Giffe said that the plans for El Portal to open a location in Syracuse were put on hold due to family matters and that they were now focusing on the construction of a new location in Waverly.

PSC Public History certificate program discussed at Rotary

The Otoe County Museum of Memories is creating a digital version of its artifact catalog—one index card at a time—with the help of public history interns from Peru State College. Dean Shissler, museum coordinator for the Nebraska City Museum Association, spoke about the new public history certificate program and how the association plans to put program interns to work in the months and years ahead at the April 20 meeting of the Nebraska City Rotary Club.
