The Nebraska City Rotary Club chose Meals on Wheels as its March Community Project, and money collected by the club during the month through member brags and announcements raised $400 for the organization.

County election offices have begun sending out early voting ballots for the May 14, 2024, statewide primary to voters who completed early voting applications and fulfilled the new voter ID requirement.Voters have two options to fulfill the new voter ID requirement during the early voting application process:Voters can write their driver’s license or state ID number on their early voting application, orVoters can submit their early voting application with a photocopy of their acceptable photo ID.County election offices are working with voters who did not successfully complete the new voter ID requirement.“With the new voter ID law now in effect, Nebraskans who cast a ballot in the May 14th primary will be making history,” Secretary of State Bob Evnen said.

Thanks to the generosity and kindness of good Samaritans, Nebraska City resident Jan James’ trip to Bellevue proved to be an Easter miracle story instead of the roadside nightmare it could have easily been.James was on a road trip to see her son, who resides in a facility in Bellevue, when her car, a Chevy Cruz thought to be in good condition, began to show evidence of trouble.

May has been proclaimed as Community Action Month in Otoe County.The Otoe County Board of Commissioners issued the proclamation at request of Southeast Nebraska Community Action (SENCA) during the board’s March 26 regular meeting.SENCA Development Director Susan Keholm and Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Coordinator Debbie Green presented SENCA’s annual report to the commissioners during the meeting.Keholm said SENCA has been active in southeast Nebraska for 58 years, serving families in Otoe, Cass, Nemaha, Johnson, Pawnee, Richardson, and Sarpy counties with a variety of serving ranging from downpayment assistance to first-time homebuyers to low-cost public transportation to housing assistance to radon testing and mitigation.Green said she soon will have the lowest number of Otoe County children (11) in the CASA program since she has been involved with it for the past seven years.

Ann (Rogers) Boice, a 1971 Peru State College graduate, had a love of the arts, particularly literature.As a teacher, a librarian, and as the voice of more than 30 books for Radio Talking Books of Nebraska, she was always anxious to share that love with others.After her passing in March 2023, her family established an endowment to fund the Ann Boice Scholarship with the PSC Foundation.
