Nebraska City athletes were honored with inclusion in the Trailblazer Conference postseason soccer honors. Pioneer boys’ players were Cutler Adams, first team all conference; Zander Brasuhn and Braedon Watkins, second team all conference; and Julian Rodriguez, all conference honorable mention. Pioneer girls’ players were Adeline Wigington, first team all conference; Miesha Oggs and Makenzie Stoll, second team all conference; and Jojo Thon, all conference honorable mention.

The Nebraska City and Lourdes track and field teams sent athletes to this year’s NSAA State Track and Field Championships at Burke Stadium.

The Nebraska City 18s softball team kicked off its season with a home tournament on Memorial Day weekend. Nebraska City scored wins against the Shockwave Prime, 10-1; the Millard Fury, 7-5; and the Nebraska Outlaws, 5-1, and ended tourney play with a record of 3-1-1. Pictured batting is Hanna Marth.

Seven centenarians celebrated on the 100th day of 2025 at Ambassador Nebraska City. The group enjoyed music, socializing and cake with punch. Hillcrest Hospice supported the event by providing cake, and they helped serve the residents and families to celebrate such a special milestone. The celebrants range in age from 100 to 102. Wade Halvorsen, defensive coordinator for the Peru State Bobcats football team, spoke to members of the Nebraska City Rotary Club during their weekly meeting at Valentino’s on Wednesday, May 14. Halvorsen spoke about the football program, last year’s 7-3 record, spring football and the upcoming 2025 season, which begins on Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Oak Bowl against Oklahoma Panhandle State. The Bobcats are coached by Head Coach Paul Ockinga. Among the Peru State assistant coaches are former Nebraska City High School Head Football Coach Lou Varley, a longtime coach at Peru, and Trevor Krenk, a former athlete and coach for Nebraska City and Lourdes.
