Carolyn J. Gress

Carolyn J. Gress, age 83 of Nebraska City passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.

Carolyn Jeanne Gress was born on July 20, 1938 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City; the daughter of Harold B. and Clara E. (Gardner) Plumer. She attended St. Bernard’s Academy (Lourdes Central Catholic) where she graduated with the Class of 1956. After high school graduation, Carolyn worked at Bernard Spencer Law Office for three years and attended Creighton University for a year. On October 15, 1960, Carolyn was united in marriage

On October 15, 1960, Carolyn was united in marriage to Raymond Theodore Gress at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City and to this union four children were born: Patrick, Christopher, Gregory and Diane. She was a homemaker and farm wife, who raised her children and helped Ray on the farm with many of the chores and the bookkeeping.

Carolyn was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, where she belonged to Altar Society/Christian Mothers and sang for the choir for 40 some years and was also the song leader for many years. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and Catholic Daughters. For many years, Carolyn helped with elections as a poll worker for the Maple Grove Precinct in Otoe County. She also volunteered at Lourdes in the computer lab.

Those left to cherish her memory, include her husband of 61 years, Ray Gress of Nebr. City, NE; children: Patrick Gress of Nebr. City, NE, Christopher Gress (Jamie) of Lincoln, NE, Gregory Gress (Jane) of Raleigh, NC and Diane Lausterer (Kris) of Papillion, NE; nine grandchildren: Priscilla Trecek, Steven Gress, Heath Gress, Audrey Lausterer, Victoria Gibbons (Brendon), Nolan Lausterer, Sarah Gress, Joshua Gress and Katie Gress; one great-grandchild Samuel Raymond Trecek; siblings: Shirley Erichsen (Ronald) of Granger, IN, Steve Plumer (Betty) of Lenexa, KS and Marty Plumer (Sue) of Independence, MO; brothers and sister in law: William Fields of Kansas City, MO, Les Woods of Kansas City, MO and Serene Hunt Nolfo of Nebr. City, NE; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her sisters: Mary Fields and Annette Woods.

A Funeral Mass was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Ryan Kaup celebrating the Mass. Burial in St. Benedict’s Cemetery.

Family visitation and a rosary were held Sunday at Gude Mortuary.
