Betty J. Aksamit

Betty J. Aksamit, age 89 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.

Betty Jean Aksamit was born on February 21, 1932 in Daken, NE; the daughter of Adolph Carl and Ida Marida (Maple) Hohensee. She attended school at the District #86 Country School.

On February 11, 1950, Betty was united in marriage to Robert Doyle Aksamit in Fairbury, NE and to this union five children were born: Kevin, Kenneth, Debra, Doug and Harold. They shared over 62 years of their lives together before Robert’s death in 2012. In addition to raising her children, she worked as a cook and waitress at Elgerts Diner in Fairbury, NE and Four Thieves Restaurant in Alexandria, NE. Robert and Betty moved to Nebraska City in 1979.

She is survived by her sons: Kenneth Aksamit (Pat) of Reeds Spring, MO, Doug Aksamit (Julie) of Nebr. City, NE, Harold Aksamit (Stacey) of Bolckow, MO; daughter Debra Stephenson of Nebr. City, NE; daughter-in-law Mary Anne Aksamit of Bruning, NE; nine grandchildren: Tonya, Mindy, Michael (Emily), Bryan (Marissa), Brad, Beau, Brittney, Blake and Nicolas; 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; sister Bonnie Ford of Boise, ID; brother Donald Hohensee (Ann) of Lincoln, NE; other family and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Aksamit on September 21, 2012, her son, Kevin Aksamit on May 8, 2007 and her brother Robert Hohensee in 2000.

A Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City. Burial will be at the Wilber Czech Cemetery in Wilber, NE.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday (2/16) at the mortuary.

Memorials may be given to the Breast Cancer Association or the American Lung Association.
