2025 Prestigious Tree Selected

Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce has selected a gingko tree reportedly given as a housewarming gift by J. Sterling Morton in the 1880s as the 2025 Arbor Day Prestigious Tree. Ricardo and Lacey J. Garcia and their daughter, Iris, now own the home at 1414 2nd Ave. where the tree has been living in the front yard for almost 140 years. Pictured from left are NCTC Executive Director Amy Allgood, NCTC Membership Director Macey Allgood, Iris Garcia, Ricardo Garcia, Lacey J. See page 4 of this issue for another perspective on this historic tree, which was given to Joseph and Frannie Davis when they moved into the house, which Joseph built.
