Surveillance detects 31 positive CWD cases

Chronic wasting disease surveillance conducted in central and north-central Nebraska during the November firearm deer season detected 31 positive cases in deer.603 samples were collected from harvested deer at check stations in the Sandhills, Keya Paha, Calamus East, Calamus West and Loup West Deer Management Units.

Fall NCPA Academic All-State Awards announced

Each year since 2006, the Nebraska School Activities Association and the Nebraska Chiropractic Physicians Association recognize students who have been nominated by their schools, based on their individual academic excellence, leadership, and significant contributions made to their NSAA activity.Since its inception, the program has grown at a steady pace with 2,838 students earning the award in 2006-2007 to 7,541 students honored during the 2022-2023 season.

City Council discusses lot purchase, Veterans Memorial Building, ambulance purchase

The final regular Nebraska City City Council meeting of 2023 featured the swearing-in of two new police officers, the purchase of a lot on North 12th Street to help address some of the city’s housing shortage, and discussion about future progress at the Nebraska City Veterans Memorial Building and the addition of a new ambulance to the city’s emergency vehicle fleet.Joshua Briley and William Barnes, who will be attending the Law Enforcement Training Center in Grand Island in January, were sworn in by Mayor Bryan Bequette.
