Father Time caught up with our 108th Legislature in dramatic fashion on April 18, with LB 1402 (a bill to empower parents to choose the school of their choice for their child, regardless of income) passing with 33 votes and Governor Pillen’s tax shift bill, LB 388, running out of steam before the finish line.LB 388, promised by some as a “magic bullet” for fixing our tax system, faced strong opposition from fiscal conservatives immediately.

Members of the Lourdes track and field team competed at the Conestoga Invite on Monday, April 22, with the girls’ team scoring 17 points and the boys’ team scoring three team points.Top finishers for the boys’ team were Blue Oggs, fifth, long jump, 19’3”; and Simon Bruggeman, sixth, triple jump, 37’9.5”.Top finishers for the girls’ team were Jenna Box, third, 300 hurdles, 53.27; Brooklyn Borer, third, 100 hurdles, 17.23; Mary Mizner, fifth, 100 hurdles, 17.77; Mikena Haag, sixth, 100 meters, 13.55; and Lily Madison, sixth, long jump, 17’00.5”.
Members of the Nebraska City track and field team were in action for a meet at Platteview last week with the girls’ team scoring 13 team points and the boys’ team garnering 15.Medal winners for the boys’ team were Dane Sjulin, third, 400, 54.14; 4x100, fourth, 47.14; 4x400, sixth, 3:53.15; Brayden Earll, fifth, discus, 132’7”; Daniel Adanza, sixth, high jump, 5’5”.Medal winners for the girls’ team were Jayce Harrah, sixth, 400, 1:05.21; sixth, 800, 2:31.40; Hannah Marth, fifth, shot, 35’3.5”; Tarryn Godsey, second, discus, 108’01”; Makayla Vasser, sixth, discus, 94’11”.
The Nebraska City boys’ soccer team lost in a 3-0 score against a 12-1 Platte team during the Trailblazer Conference tournament on April 22.
