The NCHS Pioneer Speech Team wrapped up regular season competition at the Waverly Classic Invitational March 3. Seven pioneers advanced to final rounds in varsity and novice categories.
Senior Aubrey Thurman was first in varsity entertainment speaking, and freshman Sydney Blum was first in novice extemporaneous speaking.
Ashley Robinson, senior, finished second in varsity serious interpretation. In novice serious interpretation, sophomore Macy Neumeister took third, and freshman Lilly Frields finished fourth.
Makensi Blum, senior, was third in varsity informative speaking.
In novice poetry interpretation, freshman Katherine Luther took sixth place.
Monday, March 5, select members of the team will compete in the Nebraska South District NatQuals Tournament at Omaha Marian. The top two finishers in each event qualify for the national tournament of the National Speech and Debate Association, June 17-22 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The public is invited to the Pioneer Speakers’ Showcase Monday, March 12 at 7 p.m. in the NCHS auditorium. A freewill donation is encouraged.
