Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast is celebrating its 10th anniversary Sunday from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m., and owner Jeanna Stavas is inviting the public to join her to “remember the times behind the pines.
“Our anniversary celebration event is not about me, but an opportunity to thank everyone that has supported me through the years; my family and friends, guests and patrons, partners and the surrounding communities and Nebraska City,” Stavas said. “It was only with all of these people that this business has been a success.”
Stavas left her corporate technology job in Austin, Texas, a decade ago, moved closer to her roots and purchased Whispering Pines.
“It was a crazy idea I had to leave my corporate technology job and pursue a new endeavor-career where I was able to enjoy my passion of people and food,” Stavas said. “It’s been an exciting 10 years and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!”
The festivities will include music featuring local artists Chris Saub, Aly Peeler and the Pioneers and The Packages; food and drinks provided by Prairie Fire Pizza, Kimmel Orchard and Vineyard and Fruitemade Frozen Pops; free chocolate chip cookies made by Stavas and cupcakes by Janie’s Confections; door prizes for the first 200 guests; a raffle to support local food projects such as the Nebraska City Food Pantry, the backpack program and a kids cooking camp being taught by Stavas this winter; and a scavenger hunt.
People will also be able to hear more information about the bed and breakfast’s landscape project called “Patio of memories.” People will be able to share their message, memory or name and date by purchasing an 8-inch-by-4 inch paver for $10 or three of them for $20 that will be displayed underneath the Lindon tree on the property. Pavers can be purchased at the event or online at www.bbwhisperingpines.com.
“A patio of memories will be created from pavers donated and signed by guests that they can come visit for years to come,” Stavas said.
Whispering Pines will also be wrapping up its 2015 Concert Series with Brad Colenick performing Sept. 10, Linda McRae performing Sept. 24 and Dana Cooper performing Oct. 15.
There is a suggested minimum donation of $15 to attend the concerts with the proceeds going to the traveling artists.
