Lucille Maxine Hilger, born July 5, 1932 in rural Fremont County, IA,  to Raymond D. and Geneva (Haning)Hilger, passed away August 4, 2015,  in a care center in Orange County, CA at the age of 83.  The body has  been cremated.

Lucille graduated from Hamburg High School in 1949.  She then received her bachelors degree from the University of Nebraska in 1953 and went on to Purdue University where she received her masters degree in speech therapy.

After college, she taught one year in western Nebraska, then moved to  San Francisco, California where she was employed as a speech therapist  in the Daly City School District for over 40 years.  During her years  of teaching she influenced many lives, treating each child as her own, rejoicing with them as they mastered difficult speech skills.  After retirement she stayed in San Francisco for a few years, then moved to  Laguna Hills, CA to be near her sister, Edna.

Lucille enjoyed many things in life.  She loved to travel and loved  nature, always taking delight in the various scenery God would spread before her.  She looked forward to coming home to the farm near Hamburg each summer, Christmas break and mushroom season.  She enjoyed  and cherished each moment with family and friends.  She will always be remembered lovingly by her numerous nieces and nephews, as she always was excited to see them and went out of her way to make each one feel special.

Besides her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her sister  Marcella (Hilger) Sturm, and niece Lisa Moody.  Lucille is survived by  sisters Lois (Hilger) Moody, Nebraska City, NE, Edna (Hilger) Martin,  Laguna Hills, CA, and Elizabeth (Hilger) Gebhards, Rock Port, MO; nieces and nephews, Marc Sturm, Dan Sturm, Mike Moody and Cheryl  (Moody) Phillips of Hamburg, IA; Lori (Sturm) Ullerich of Atlantic,  IA; Tony Sturm of Elkhorn, NE; David Gebhards of Rock Port, MO; Karen (Gebhards) Vette of Westboro, MO; Jim Martin of Clarkdale, AZ; Janet (Martin) Estep of Laguna Hills, CA; Kenneth Moody of Gothenburg, NE;  and Dean Moody of Lake of the Ozarks, MO and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Rash Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.  Inurnment will follow the services at the Hamburg Cemetery.   There is no scheduled family visitation.   Memorials may be directed to the Hamburg Fire and Rescue Squad.    Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA is in charge of arrangements.
