Gladys M. (West) Brehm was born September 6, 1920 in rural Johnson County, Nebraska. One of five children of Mace and Lillie (Schmidt) West, Gladys attended District 60 rural school and graduated from high school in Johnson, Nebraska.

Gladys M. (West) Brehm was born September 6, 1920 in rural Johnson County, Nebraska.  One of five children of Mace and Lillie (Schmidt) West, Gladys attended District 60 rural school and graduated from high school in Johnson, Nebraska.
   On March 9, 1940 Gladys was married to Willard F. Brehm at her parents’ home, the place of her birth.  Their union was blessed with six children.
   Gladys was the ultimate homemaker and farm wife.  She made sure things ran smoothly at home, cooking, gardening, and raising the children, and also helped with farm work when needed.
   A member of Zion United Church of Christ in Talmage, Gladys was active in Women’s Fellowship for many years.  She enjoyed dancing (including ballroom, round, and square dancing), and belonged to two different card clubs.  She and Willard also loved to travel, and made many bus trips to different locations across the country.
   Gladys and Willard moved to Belle Terrace in Tecumseh, Nebraska in February of 2010.  Willard passed in March of that year, and Gladys continued to live in the care center.  She passed away there, with family around her, on Wednesday, June 3, 2015.  She had reached the age of 94 years, 8 months, and 28 days.  In addition to her husband, Gladys was preceded in death by her sons Charles and Dallas, daughter-in-law Carolyn; sons-in-law John Hill and George Winner; brother Darrell “Bud” West, and sister Barbara Jean Barr Kiley.
   Gladys is survived by her children and their spouses Ann Hill Winner of Vienna, Austria; Lyle and Kathy Brehm of LaVista; James and Lorraine Brehm of Talmage; Jean and Gary Shelstad of San Antonio, TX; daughter-in-law Judith Brehm of Blair; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister Lois Baker of San Diego, CA; brother Kenneth and wife Jo Ann West of San Diego, CA; many other relatives and friends.
   The funeral service was Saturday, June 06, 2015 at Zion United Church of Christ in Talmage, with Rev. Carla Patterson officiating.  Congregational hymns were accompanied by Joyce Nowack.  Casket bearers were Kevin Brehm, Adam Brehm, Bradley Brehm, Jeffrey Brehm, Michelle Mathiesen, and Kimberly Brehm.  Honorary bearers were Courtney Linley, Carrie Loebus, Jill Harrold, Leslie Gonzalez, Trisha Brehm, Sonja Stutsman, Curtis Brehm, Ryan Shelstad, and Eric Brehm.  Burial followed in Grant Evergreen Cemetery.
   Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
