Harvey Henry John Dettmer was born November 12, 1923, to William and Hattie (Kirchhoff) Dettmer, and raised on a farm in Cass County.
He passed away October 14, 2014 in Lincoln. He was baptized at First Lutheran Church, where he was also confirmed as a young boy.
On June 2, 1943, he married Myldred Kuenning and two children were blessed to this marriage, Robert and Sandy.
His love of farming started at the age of 14, when he began working for John Mohr, farming with horses making a $1 a day.
His passion for farming over the years led him to help raise turkeys for a short time and haul livestock for farmers all over southeast Nebraska.
He loved to tell how when he was younger and with the use of horses, he could pick enough corn by hand to fill two wagons a day.  In the late 40’s he got his first tractor, a Ford with steel wheels.  He also sold seed corn and that adventure got him and Myldred a trip to Hawaii and also a cruise to the Panama Canal.  He continued to farm with his John Deere until 1998, when they had a farm sale and moved to town.
He was proud of his 25 years spent as a 4-H leader for the North Branch Ranchero’s, where many members would be in the Champion   arena with their animals.  He continued to serve as a resource leader for another 25 years all because of his love for the kids, animals and the Otoe County Fair.
Once they moved to town, Harvey continued to haul livestock with his red pickup and his aluminum trailer.
He retired from hauling, and turned his talents to woodworking, making many treasures for family and friends.
His love of always being on the go and spending time visiting friends and family kept him happy.  Harvey knew everybody and everybody seemed to know Harvey.  He will be greatly missed.
