Helen Lucille Horns, 85, died March 16, 2014 at Tabitha in Lincoln. She was born in Nebraska City on July 25, 1928 to James Hiskey and Maggie (Miller) Hiskey.

Helen Lucille Horns, 85, died March 16, 2014 at Tabitha in Lincoln. She was born in Nebraska City on July 25, 1928 to James Hiskey and Maggie (Miller) Hiskey.


She was raised in Nebraska City and graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1945.
After high school, she worked as a bookkeeper for a local business and bank in Nebraska City.
Helen married Arthur Fredrick Horns Aug. 12, 1947 at the Luther Memorial Church in Syracuse.  They had two daughters, Trudy and Connie.  Helen and Arthur raised their daughters on the family farm five miles west of Syracuse.  Arthur and Helen ran the farm until Arthur’s death in 1963.  That year Helen took a job in Syracuse with a local attorney. Helen, Trudy, and Connie moved to Syracuse.  


Eventually, Helen and her daughters moved to Lincoln after taking a job with a Lincoln Bank.  She continued to work, taking a job with the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission.  She worked there until retirement in 1995.


Her hobbies included crocheting, gardening, flower arranging, and cooking.  She enjoyed researching the family genealogy and traveling.  One of her highlights was making sure her five grandchildren had a vacation to Disney World.


Helen was an only child.  Her husband’s family became her family.


Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband’s parents, three brother-in-laws and one sister-in-law, and her husband, Arthur.


Graveside services were held at Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse and a celebration of life at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln.


She is survived by her children and spouses, Trudy and Robert Hill of Lincoln, Connie and Joseph Gillilan of Hardy;  grandchildren Krista Hill and husband Tony Wilson of Omaha, Mark Hill of Lincoln, and Michael, Jason, and Sean Gillilan of Hardy.


Butherus, Maser &  Love of Lincoln were in charge of arrangements.
