The Nebraska City girls' soccer team scored a win over Crete Tuesday. The Pioneer baseball and boys' soccer teams were also in action.

The Nebraska City girls’ soccer team got first half goals from Ava Wetrosky and Brooke Knapp on the way to a season opening 2-1 victory at home against Crete on Thursday. Knapp’s goal was off an assist by Taylor Bequette.  Kenia Balquier had five saves in the win. Nebraska City will return to action on Monday for a 5 p.m. start in a JV-Varsity home doubleheader with Platteview.

Crete scored a goal in the first half and made that hold up in a 1-0 decision against the Nebraska City boys’ soccer team at Pioneer Field on Thursday. Nebraska City will return to action for a 5 p.m. Varsity match at Platteview on Monday.

Elkhorn Mount Michael posted four runs on six hits and limited the Nebraska City baseball team to a run on two hits in a 4-1 decision. Nebraska City hits were by Noah Kasbohm and Kestyn Lee.  The only Pioneer run was scored by Lee. Pitching the loss for Nebraska City was Jake Pierce, who is returning to varsity competition after a knee injury during the Nebraska City football season. Pierce threw five innings, struck out seven, walked three and allowed three runs, one earned, on five hits. Nathan Zaroban pitched an inning of relief and allowed one unearned run on one hit. He struck out two and walked one.  The Pioneers will play at Elkhorn South on Friday. First pitch of a Varsity-JV doubleheader will be at 4:30 p.m. Nebraska City host Varsity-JV doubleheader action against Eastern Midlands Conference foe Bennington at 4:30 p.m. on Monday at Clemmy Holmes Field.
