James “Jim” Martin Schwab, 81, of Nebraska City, formerly of Syracuse, died Jan. 8, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. Jim was born on
Aug. 13, 1932 in Pawnee City to Frank and Audrey (Martin) Schwab.

Aug. 13, 1932 in Pawnee City to Frank and Audrey (Martin) Schwab.


    Jim graduated from Syracuse High School in 1950 and then joined the Navy, serving on USS The Sullivans during the Korean War. Jim married
Judith (Schroeter) Ghorashy on April 2, 1977 at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church
in Syracuse. He worked at Eastern Nebraska Public Power/OPPD, retiring after 36 years of service.


    Jim was a life member of VFW Post #5547 and a member of the American Legion Post #100. He enjoyed family, golfing, horses, traveling, and visiting with friends.


    Jim is survived by wife Judith Schwab of Nebraska City; children Martin
(Patty) Schwab of Murray, Teri (Rodney) Nincehelser of Syracuse and Lori Taylor of Fayetteville, Ark.; stepson Pasha (Rene) Ghorashy of Spokane, Wash.; siblings Marge Whitlow of Lincoln, Mary (Howard) Engelbrect of Syracuse, Aubrey “Bud” (Eva Jane) Schwab of Springfield, Mo., Sue Martin of Bellevue, Glenn
(Nelvie) Schwab of Beatrice, and Midge Giambattista of Omaha; mother-in-law
Dorothy Schroeter of Lincoln; in-laws Jan (Bruce) Madsen of Nebraska City and Bob
(Sally) Schroeter of Madison; grandchildren Robert (Ashley) Taylor, Brian Taylor, Jeniffer Berner, Clayton Nincehelser and fiancé Jane Rabe, Jessica
Laughlin, Alexis Ghorashy and Andrew Ghorashy; great grandchild EmmaLee Laughlin; and many nieces, nephews and friends.


    He was preceded by parents, brother C. Gene Schwab, son-in-law David Taylor, brother-in-law Lloyd Whitlow, and father-in-law Otto Schroeter.


    A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, Jan. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at
Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse with Rev. Gail Madson
officiating.


    Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery.


    Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 12 from noon until 6 p.m. with family
greeting friends from 4:30-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
