Anita “Irene” Williams, 74, of Peru and formerly of Talmage, died Jan. 10, 2012 at her home. She was born on June 4, 1937 in Nebraska City to Frank and Elsie (Kleineweber) Bassinger.


Anita “Irene” Williams, 74, of Peru and formerly of Talmage, died Jan. 10, 2012 at her home. She was born on June 4, 1937 in Nebraska City to Frank and Elsie (Kleineweber) Bassinger.  She married Richard L. Williams on Feb. 7, 1956 in Nebraska City. He preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1994.
Irene worked at the Syracuse Community Hospital in Syracuse for 35 years as the central supply technician.  She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

 

She is survived by sons  Merlyn Williams and wife Mary and Phillip “David” Williams and wife Mary, all of Nebraska City; daughter Cathy Castner and husband Arnold “Butch” of Peru; 12 grandchildren:  Matt Williams, Leslie Kaster and husband Bill, Samantha Grobler and husband Corius, Lance Barnes, Amber Huffman, Kacie Huffman, Travis Castner and wife Nicole, Amy Daniels, Justin Williams, Katie Pieken, Jacob Williams and Donnie Roberts; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings Lucille Teegarden of Nebraska City and Jim Bassinger and wife Lois of Nebraska City; and other family and friends and friends.

 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded by sisters Sedona Shefferd, Ruby Conrad and Arwilda Bennett.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Nebraska City with Bishop Troy Bennett officiating.  Burial will follow at Camp Creek Cemetery south of Nebraska City.

 

Viewing is Thursday from 3-8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and an hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.

 

The family will greet friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.
