Sandy W. Esser, 59, of Nebraska City died on May 13, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.


Sandy W. Esser, 59, of Nebraska City died on May 13, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Oct. 27, 1950 in Nebraska City to J. Robert and Marjorie E. (Teten) Esser. 

Sandy graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1969. He entered the U.S. Army on Oct.14, 1969 and was honorably discharged on Aug. 27, 1971.

He owned and operated the End Zone in Nebraska City for many years and Esser’s Tavern in Nebraska City.  He loved his job and the many people he became friends with over the years.  He volunteered of his time and the business to help out with various projects including the Relay for Life and Veterans Day Luncheon to name a few.  He was a member of the Eagles, the Elks and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, of Nebraska City; sons Jason Esser and wife Kim of Nebraska City, Jeremy Esser and wife Rachel of Sheldon, Iowa, and Jarrod Esser and wife Jodi of Waterloo; four grandchildren; brothers Norbert Esser and wife Violet, Randy Esser and Kevin Esser, all of Nebraska City, and Jan Esser and wife Ila of Syracuse; sister Paris Jordan and husband Craig of West Plains, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Ingrid Brammer and husband Jerry of Dunbar and Kathy Fitcher and husband Roger of Glenwood, Iowa; brother-in-law Howard Comstock of Glenwood; other family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City with Fr. Michael McCabe officiating; burial will follow in St. Benedict’s Cemetery at Nebraska City.

Memorials may be given to the Otoe County Relay for Life.
