The Nebraska City Public Schools board of education took action during its July regular meeting to get the 2025-2026 school year off to a good start.
Board members approved 2025-2026 handbooks for classified and certified staff, as well as student handbooks and Chromebook handbooks during the meeting.
The board also approved pay rates for substitute teachers for the coming school year at $180 per day.
Internal sub pay and professional development stipend rates for certified staff were set at $28 per hour, and activity and athletic event support staff rates were set at $15 per hour.
Bus rates will be $130 per student per semester. Tuition will be $5,350/year for students in kindergarten through fifth grade, $6,240/year for sixth through eighth grade, and $7,488/year for high school students.
The board accepted a bid of $11,520 from Bohl Plumbing and Heating to replace both the heating and air-conditioning units at the Central Office.
Board members also approved the installation of LED lights in the Middle School Art Room by Madsen Electric LLC at a cost of $6,429.46.
Board members accepted the resignation of Nebraska City High School physical education teacher Bailey Williams during the meeting.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the NCPS board of education is set for 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, in the boardroom of the district Central Office, 1700 14th Ave.
