The Nebraska City Rotary Club got to meet the new Nebraska City Public Schools elementary principals during the club’s July 16 meeting.

Hayward Principal Tammy Schaefer graduated from Nebraska City High School and Peru State College.

Her 33-year educational career began teaching fourth grade at Osmond Community Schools before serving as an elementary school counselor in Norfolk Public Schools.

Schaefer later served as PK-5 principal and special education director Cross County Community Schools.

Before returning to NCPS, she was a student services supervisor at Educational Services Unit (ESU) 2.

She said she didn’t have to think twice about accepting the NCPS job because it meant she “got to come back home.”

Originally from Beatrice, Northside Principal Michaela Wilcox was a second-grade teacher at North Park Elementary in Columbus Public Schools before coming to NCPS.

Wilcox earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska, Kearney (UNK), a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Doane College, and an educational administration (EDAD) endorsement from UNK.

She described herself as team-oriented and said she enjoys empowering others. Wilcox plans to introduce some of her community service projects from Columbus to the Northside students and staff.
