Legislative Update

Bob Hallstrom
Nebraska Unicameral

The 2025 Legislative Session concluded and the Legislature has adjourned Sine Die. Final Reading of bills was completed on Monday, June 2. Since Governor Pillen did not veto any of the final bills, the Legislature was able to adjourn a week earlier than originally scheduled.

During the 2025 Session, 715 bills, 18 constitutional amendments and six more policy-based resolutions were introduced. Senators requested more than 1,600 amendments during the session. A total of 204 bills passed this session, and 113 more bills were amended into those bills that have or will soon become law. Bills that have an emergency clause take effect immediately upon signature by the Governor. All other bills will become law on September 3, three months after adjournment.

I introduced 19 bills and one Constitutional Amendment this session. Seven of them were passed by the Legislature on their own and signed by the Governor. Four were amended into other bills that eventually passed and were signed by the Governor. One was resolved administratively without the need the need for legislative action. The remaining bills and constitutional amendment will be carried over to next session for further consideration. All legislative bills can be examined at the Nebraska Legislature website, www.nebraskalegislature.gov
