It’s just one month until the start of winter sports practice, but Nebraska City’s Makayla Vasser hasn’t been waiting around for the start of a new wrestling season.

In addition to participating as a member of the Pioneer cross country program this fall, Vasser has been excelling on the wrestling mat and, most recently, was in action for a pair of prestigious tournaments in the War of the Roses and the Super 32.

The War of the Roses in Indianapolis, Ind., is a premier all-girls wrestling tournament. Vasser posted a 10-1 record at the War of the Roses with all 10 wins by pin.

Vasser also competed in North Carolina at the Super 32, one of the toughest high school tournaments in the country. Vasser took fourth place at that tournament.

Vasser is getting set for her sophomore season on the high school mat for the Pioneers. As a freshman, Vasser overcame a knee injury which forced her to miss the pre-Christmas schedule for the Pioneers and went on to claim a district championship and a runner up finish in the state.
