Naomi M. Gross, 100 of Syracuse, passed away on May 10, 2022 at the Syracuse Hospital. Naomi was born July 4, 1921 to Walter and Ruby (Dively) Vohs on the family farm near Burr, NE. She attended rural Otoe County schools through 8th grade. Even as a young girl, she was always outside with the animals and helping her father. Naomi married Ernie Gross on October 25, 1940 in Papillion, NE. They had two children, son Kenny and daughter Susan.
Naomi and Ernie lived on the Gross home place two miles east of Burr, NE until moving to Syracuse in 1963. Naomi was a dedicated farm wife working the farm along side Ernie. She was a lifelong member of the Friendly Neighbors Extension Club, a lifelong member of the Burr and Syracuse Methodist churches, worked at the Syracuse Community Memorial Hospital, loved playing cards and going to morning coffee with the ‘girls’. Her greatest joys were spending time with her family, especially, attending her great – grandchildren’s activities when she could. She and Ernie loved to travel and camp and did so after Ernie retired from 50 years of Square Dance Calling with Naomi always by his side. They were known for their Square and Round Dance teaching in the Tri-State area.
Naomi was friendly, outgoing, and loved by all who knew her. She loved to visit with people and would strike up conversations with complete strangers. Her family said she never knew a stranger and could carry on a conversation with a fence post!!
Naomi is survived by her daughter Susan McClatchey and Charlie Hartline of Whittier NC, daughter-in-law Connie Gross, of Goodyear AZ. Grandson Jon Royal and wife Dante of Hiawatha KS, granddaughter Kristi Good and husband Denny of HI, great grandchildren Rebecca Royal and fiancé Patrick Dunning of Topeka KS, Jonathan Royal of Manhattan KS, and sister Norma Sporhase of Norfolk VA and several nieces and nephews.
