At its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 25, the local Voiture of the 40 & 8 in Nebraska City awarded a grant to Registered Nursing student Kelly Briley. Briley is currently working as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Mission Field. She was also presented with a 2025 Nurses training Program pin from the 40 & 8. She is attending Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, and will graduate in May 2025 with her degree. Nebraska City Rotary Club President Don Loseke, right, presented $500 to Debbie Green and the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program at the club’s Feb. 19 meeting. The donation came from money contributed by members during February meetings and then matched by the club. CASA volunteers provide support for children in foster care.

Rotary District 5650 Chair of the Rotary Foundation Mick McKinley visited the Nebraska City Rotary Club Feb. 26 to discuss the Foundation’s work. He said the Foundation began in 1915 when Rotary President Arch Klumpf set aside $27.50 as seed money. Among the projects funded by the Rotary Foundation are Polio Plus, the organization’s ongoing effort to eradicate polio around the world, and the Annual Fund, which supports grants made worldwide by Rotary International. McKinley said members of the Nebraska City Rotary Club have donated $94.472 to Rotary International in the 99 years the club has been in existence. Local organizations helped by the Nebraska City Rotary Club in the past year include Meals on Wheels, the Backpack Program of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, CASA, and the Nebraska City Food Pantry.
