National Library Week proclaimed in NC
April 6 to 12 has been proclaimed National Library Week in Nebraska City by Mayor Bryan Bequette. This year’s theme is “Drawn to the Library.”
Nordhues hired as Lourdes FB Coach
Lourdes is excited to announce the hiring of Rick Nordhues as their new high school head football coach. Rick brings decades of teaching and coaching experience at the high school level to Lourdes. He retired last year from Syracuse Public Schools where he was a math teacher for 30 years and also served as the head football coach for 24 years. During his tenure at Syracuse, he led the football team to 14 state playoff appearances.

What a week! In our immediate area, we have been nearly blown apart by the 70 plus mph winds in our neck of the woods. I was reminded again of “the good old days” without electricity and of the fact that, indeed, as independent as we view ourselves, we are not “in charge” of our lives.

Council hears traffic signal update, approves additional improvements
After an uninsured motorist damaged the cabinet containing electronics that controlled the traffic signal at 11th Street and 4th Corso last October, the City of Nebraska City was facing a 4- to 6-month wait for a replacement cabinet and other parts needed to repair the signal at a cost of $54,618.
