Lourdes girls’ team enjoying another winning streak

After seeing their seven-game win streak come to an end against Johnson-Brock (13-1) on Jan. 7, the Lourdes girls’ basketball team responded by winning their next four games, including wins last week against Class C1 Auburn, 35-21, on Jan. 14; Class D1 Weeping Water, 55-36 on Jan. 16, and Sidney (Iowa), a team considered to be C2 by the Nebraska classification system, 56-33, on Jan. 18.

NCPS board of education member installation

At the Jan. 13 meeting of the Nebraska City Public Schools board of education, incoming board members Patricia Lant, Sally Schreiner, and John Hodges took the oath of office to begin the meeting. They replace Jeff Frields, Nick Schmitz, and Don Loseke on the board and will each serve for four years. Lisa Chaney was selected as the board president for 2025, and Brent Shanholtz was selected as the board vice president. Chaney has been an NCPS board member since 2016, and Shanholtz has served since 2023.

Toy Drive 1-24-25

Local businesses contributed to the Triple B Toy Drive for the Angel Tree Project in December. Businesses included Little Ted’s Pub and Grill, Spring Garden Restaurant, City Tap House LLC, The Downtowner Casual Cafe, Dinty Moore’s Bar, and West Central Bar. Dinty Moore’s Bar contributed the most cash and The Downtowner Casual Cafe collected the most toys.

UNO academic honors
