American Legion, VFW seek volunteers to place flags for Memorial Day

Volunteers are needed to assist the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars members who will be putting flags up around the Otoe County Courthouse on Thursday, May 23, at 5 p.m.Volunteers are also needed to help put flags on veterans’ graves at Wyuka Cemetery on Friday, May 24, beginning at 3 p.m.The flags will remain on display until after Independence Day.

The Return of Law Day

At the end of Law Day on Thursday, May 2, the final score was Superman 2, State of Nebraska 0.To illustrate how the court system works, fifth-grade students from Lourdes Central Catholic and Hayward Elementary acted out a play in which Superman was accused of criminal mischief and trespassing and arrested by the sheriff as he attempted to rescue Lois Lane from a dangerous group of kidnapers who did not want her to write a story for the Daily Planet about welfare fraud.In the morning session, students who comprised the jury from Christina Atkins’ and John Stidd’s classes were unable to come to a unanimous decision about Superman’s guilt or innocence.
