Pioneer baseball clashes with DC West, Crete

Weather forced the cancellation of games on April 25 against Falls City, April 26 against Ralston and April 27 against Omaha Gross.Still, the Pioneer baseball team was able to fit in a pair of contests which sandwiched the cancelled action with games on April 24 against Crete at home and on April 29 at Douglas County West ahead of the team’s district game, set for Thursday, May 2, at Grenta East against North Platte.The Pioneers yielded three runs through three innings of the Monday game at Douglas County West before ending up on the short end of a 4-2 final score.Nebraska City out-hit the Falcon side 4-3.

Pioneer boys’ track second at Falls City meet

The Nebraska City boys’ track team picked up 35 points and a second-place finish at the Falls City Invite on April 22.Medal winners included Kalan Fritch, first, long jump, 20’; Mitchell Hodges, first, 800, 2:18.70; JR Rico, first, 1600, 10:52.8 and first, 3200, 10:52.10; Brayden Earll, second, discus, 130’; and fourth, shot, 41’9”; Dane Sjulin, fourth, 300 hurdles, 51.61; fourth, long jump, 18’9.25”; Jayden Antonides, fifth, 200, 25.36; fifth, triple jump, 36’9.5”; Daniel Adanza, fifth, 400, 55.57; and second, high jump, 5’6”; Breyden Durand, third, triple jump, 37’1”; and Leland Esser, fifth, discus, 106’1”.The 4x100 relay team was second in 48.56 and the 4x400 team was first in 3:48.12.
