Lourdes track athletes opened their season with the annual Pioneer Conference indoor meet on the campus of Doane College at Crete on March 20.The Knights scored 53 team points on the girls’ side and had 11 team points on the boys’ side.

The early portion of the Nebraska City baseball schedule saw the Pioneers play three games and win one while having four others postponed.On March 19, the Pioneers topped Omaha Roncalli in a battle of coaches who were players on the Nebraska City American Legion Seniors 2002 Class B state championship team.Nick Schumacher, the winning pitcher in the state championship game that summer, ironically against the Roncalli Pride, is in his first year leading the Omaha-based baseball program.Kyle Ferguson, the Pioneer head coach, was also featured prominently on that 2002 squad.This year’s high school match up of the Pride and Pioneers shared one other common link with the summer title game in that it went to extra frames with the Nebraska City side winning a close decision, 7-6.Nebraska City had nine hits for the game.
