Despite absences, Pioneer girls’ team finds success at Crete

Despite having just six members of its team in the line up for Saturday’s Crete Invite, the Nebraska City girls’ wrestling team found its way to the middle of the team standings.Heart Riosa went 2-2 on the tournament at 100 pounds, moved to 8-3 for the season and was just one match short of a medal finish.At 105, Leah Clark went 2-2 and is now 6-5 on the year.Grace Conner had a 3-2 record at Crete and a fifth-place finish.

Pioneer boys’ basketball tops Arlington

Kalan Fritch notched 23 points including 20 in the first half and the Pioneer boys’ basketball team topped Arlington 70-64 for the Pioneers’ first win of the season and first victory under Coach Tom Ahlschwede.Fritch hit three first half three-point shots in helping the Pioneers to a 39-37 lead at the half.The game stood tied going into the final quarter.Kaiden Klassen, six points; Daneil Adanza, six points; and Sam Rovetto, five points, keyed a 20-point fourth quarter.
