A New Year

I’m not going to get too excited about this baby year, number 2024, that is about to come upon the scene.Times were, way back when, that I used to really look forward to whatever excitement the new year would bring.One thing I am not excited about is the fact that this year will go by in a blur of political advertisements!

In the past couple of months, we have changed some of the processes we go through to put the paper together, which has meant that I have not been as able to attend the weekly meeting of the Nebraska City Rotary Club as I had been in the past.Club members, especially Program Chair Dave Messing, have been extremely accommodating of the change in my schedule, and I was recently able to catch up on meetings I’ve missed by listening to recordings that have been made for my benefit as well as the benefit of Rotarians who have to miss a meeting because of a previous commitment.The first recording I listened to was a presentation by the Rev.

CFB getting set for NFL Light

College football hits its crescendo on Monday night as the last of the bowl games and national semifinals are contested.Yes, football fans will still have the national championship game to look forward to, but the fury of multiple games will be over as the college sport gets set for the usual and customary seven month plus offseason.When football wakes up again for the 2024 campaign it won’t look like it has ever looked.The opinion of voters in a poll or people in a committee will still decide which team is the best team in college football or will at least set up the 12-team tournament to decide the champion.But a lot will go missing from the sport that fans have shown great love and devotion to over the years.Some traditional match ups will leave.
