Pioneer track racks up medals at Falls City Invite

Nebraska City’s track and field teams competed on Monday, April 24, at the Falls City Invite. Top six finishers for the Pioneer boys’ team were Kalan Fritch, first, long jump, 19’10”; Brayden Earll, first, shot, 39’04”; first, discus, 112’3”; fourth, 300 meter hurdles, 49.04; Mason Houghton, first, 3200, 10:42.35; JR Rico, first, 800, 2:12.31; second, 1600, 4:48.57; Cameron Bock, second, high jump, 5’2”; Dane Sjulin, second, 400, 54.88; fifth, 200, 26.22; third, long jump, 18’4.5”; Tucker Popish, third, discus, 100’5”; Mason VonFeldt, fourth, 200, 25.96; Isaiah Aldana, fifth, shot, 34’10.5”; Breyden Durand, sixth, 100, 12.84; sixth, 200, 26.63; and Jordan Cooper, sixth, 400, 1:00.77.

Knight girls’ track takes second at conference

Lourdes scored 110 team points and picked up a second- place finish behind Tri County in girls’ track and field action at the 2023 Pioneer Conference meet at Tri County on Saturday, April 29. Medal winners were Aspen Meyer, first, high jump, 4’10”; first, 200, 27.20; first, 100, 13.23; Evie Madison, first, 3200, 13:30.42; second, 1600, 6:23.31; Jenna Box, second, 300 meter hurdles, 51.14; third, long jump, 14’7”; Brooklyn Borer, second, 100, 13.27; second, 100 meter hurdles, 15.36; Mikena Haag, fourth, 100, 13.57; Mia White, fourth, 1600, 6:44.66; Lauren Benedict, fifth, high jump, 4’6”; Mary Misner, fifth, 300 meter hurdles, 57.59; sixth, 100 meter hurdles, 18.49; and Izzy Fulton, sixth, 400, 66.32.

NCECBVI hosts ‘Hawaiian Paradise’ prom

The Nebraska Center for the Education of Children who are Blind or Visually Impaired (NCECBVI) hosted a “Hawaiian Paradise” prom on Thursday, April 20. Guests enjoyed a meal with family and friends, followed by dancing and the coronation of the prom King Austin Roberts from NCECBVI and Council Bluffs Community Schools and Queen Joseline Ramirez from ESU 4. NCECBVI staff and students planned the event, Lourdes Central Catholic and Nebraska City High School students loaned some decorations. Volunteers before and during the event came from Lourdes Central Catholic, Delta Gamma, and Nebraska City Public Schools. Also pictured from the event are the prom court.

Nebraska State Patrol news

Troopers arrest 13 impaired drivers during weekend campaign Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol removed from the road 13 impaired drivers, including two drugimpaired drivers, during a recent special enforcement operation. The effort, which ran from April 19 through April 23, included high-visibility patrols throughout the state.
