“Still Lifes” from the Museum of Nebraska Art continues as the Kimmel Gallery exhibition at the Morton-James Public Library. This exhibition features a selection of still life paintings from the Museum of Nebraska Art Collection. As a subject matter, still lifes transcend time and cultures to express wealth and identity, and often for the artis, their skills and style. Explore how artists use basic art principles such as composition, line, light, color and perspective to craft narratives and different painting styles. The exhibit closes May 2. This exhibit has been organized by the Museum of Nebraska Art as part of the ARTreach program, bringing original art to communities throughout the state.

Principal Scot Davis at Hayward Elementary has shared the awards presented at the March Purple Jam. Stella Jeffrey and Julian Cervantes were named Hayward Heroes. They each received lunch at Pizza Hut and a poster from Adkins Signs. Purple Award winners were Miss Dia’s third-grade class, Mrs. Becker’s fourthgrade class, and Mrs. Young’s fifth-grade class were recognized for cleanest classroom with Purple Broom and Dustpan Awards.
Members of the Nebraska City City Council are considering whether the city will join a statewide tree-planting effort to memorialize veterans and first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty. Jim Meier, director of Nebraska Honor and Remember, gave a presentation to the council on April 17 about his organization’s latest project, the Nebraska Memorial Forest.
The City of Nebraska City has provided updates on two current road projects, including early May temporary road closures. According to Nebraska City Construction and Facility Manager Marty Stovall, the 1st Corso Improvement Project continues to be ahead of schedule.

The Nemaha Natural Resources District Board of Directors met on Thursday, April 13th, 2023 in Tecumseh, Nebraska. All well permit applications brought forward to the board were approved.
