Jean Marie Wieckhorst, age 71 of Nebraska City died March 20, 2023 at the Bellevue Medical Center in Bellevue. Jean was born August 2, 1951 in Nebraska City, the daughter of Robert William and Rhobie Denica (Munson) Hauptman.
Eunice Lorene (Bailey) Woods age 95 of Omaha, NE peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at The Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth, NE. She was born on July 20, 1927 to Claude Dell Bailey and Gladys Mary (Wigington) Bailey in Schuyler, NE.
A 30-player roster for the Nebraska City boys’ soccer team looks to compete at a high level in 2023 after having lost 14 seniors from last year’s district finals squad. Coach Jessica Rice said the Pioneer players are stepping up to fill the void left by that large senior group.
Nebraska City’s goal for the 2023 girls’ soccer team is straightforward. Give it everything you got! The 17-member squad under the direction of Coach Paul Dewey hopes to be competitive in every match on the schedule this year.
Twenty-four athletes are out for the Nebraska City boys’ golf team this season with the breakdown being seven seniors, six juniors, seven sophomores and four freshmen. Seniors on this year’s team are Jayden Borns, Eli Davis, Landen Clark, Zach Ackerman, Alex Rico, Vance Weninger, and Dalton Knippelmeyer.
A total of 29 athletes are out for track and field at Nebraska City High School for the 2023 season. The breakdown is 19 boys and 10 girls. Of those athletes, nine are freshmen, eight are sophomores, nine are juniors and three are seniors.
After a strong finish last year, the 2023 Pioneer baseball team will be looking for a strong spring and a potential trip to the state tournament. “After finishing last season with a 10-11 record and losing to the state runner-up (Waverly) in districts last season, the boys are focused and ready to get to work,” said Coach Kyle Ferguson.
A total of 36 athletes are out for track and field this year at Lourdes Central Catholic. The breakdown has seven seniors, five juniors, 11 sophomores and 13 freshmen.
Congratulations to the two Pioneer girls’ basketball players on the Trailblazer All-Conference list. Tarryn Godsey was second team and Tierra Andrew was honorable mention.
