State Patrol K9s receive protective vest donation Nebraska State Patrol K9’s Jerry, Amos, Chase, Ezra, Fahn, Gable, Havik, Lee, Malloy, and Tilt have received bullet and stab protective vests, thanks to a charitable donation from the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s Inc. K9 Jerry’s vest was sponsored by an anonymous donor and was embroidered with the sentiment “Honoring those who served and sacrificed.” K9 Amos’s vest was sponsored by Bridget McGowan of Tehachapi, Calif., and has been embroidered with the sentiment “In honor of all working, retired and departed K9s.” K9 Chase and K9 Lee’s vests were sponsored by the Bomonti Family of Renton, Wash., and have been embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of Janice Bomonti.” K9’s Ezra, Fahn, Gable, Havik, Malloy and Tilt’s vests were sponsored using general funds and have been embroidered with the sentiment “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s Inc.” Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

Morton-James Public Library, Keep NC Beautiful collaborate on community cleanup

A new program is now underway that allows Morton- James Public Library patrons to help keep Nebraska City litter-free by checking out a cleanup kit at the library. “When I was in Washington, DC, for the Keep America Beautiful Conference a couple of weeks ago, Keep Conway [South Carolina] Beautiful shared an idea of how they partnered with their library to check out litter pickup kits,” said Keep Nebraska City Beautiful Executive Director Sally DuBois.

Steinhart Park In the vicinity of Steinhart Park are the Wildwood Period House, Wildwood Golf Course, and Steinhart Lodge (leased to the National Arbor Day Foundation). This park covers 36 acres and is equipped with: Picnic facilities Jogging course Children’s play equipment Tennis courts Aquatic Center Baseball and softball diamonds Wildwood Park and Historic Center This park is located adjacent to Steinhart Park and the Wildwood Golf Course and consists of 27 acres. The park includes: Picnic areas Historic period house Playing field Bicycling and hiking trails Dog Park Nuckolls Square Park This park is centrally located within the city. The park consists of 1.7 acres and includes: Playground equipment Two large gazebos Picnic tables General open space Riverview Park This park is located adjacent to the Riverview Marina and consists of 32.8 acres of land. The park includes: Hiking Monument Scenic overlook Greggsport Park This park is located in the eastern part of Nebraska City and consists of 1.7 acres of land. The park has: Playground area General open space Kearney Hill Park This park is located in the southeast part of Nebraska City and consists of 2.9 acres of land. The park contains: Picnic areas Softball practice fields Nebraska City Softball Complex This park is located in the northwest corner of Nebraska City along U.S. Business Highway 75, on 12.1 acres of land. Humanities and the Physician

After 40 years as a doctor interacting with patients, in the last two and a half years the tables turned, and I’ve become the patient. Although most are good, I’ve found some doctors are detached, some are too quick, some would rather be somewhere else, some are even angry; but, when a physician who cares walks into the room, and I’m not exaggerating, the day becomes better, the pain becomes less, and hope fills my heart. Scientific knowledge is important, but the ability to convey honest concern, human thoughtfulness and compassion is equal in importance in this healing profession. So, how do we select pre-med students for that, or teach compassion in medical school?
